Valley of Thor
day tour in Iceland
Season - All year round
As you might of heard, Iceland is sparsely inhabited. In fact approximately 70 per cent of the Icelandic population lives in the southern west area and almost no one lives in the central part of the island, also known as the Highlands.
The Icelandic highlands can be accessed in the summer months with mountain roads with 4wd vehicles and in the winter those roads are only accessible with big modified jeeps and experienced drivers. The main reasons being the roads are gravel roads and some of them have rivers to cross. Þorsmörk is home to some of the most dangerous rivers , that’s the reason we take you in a big modified jeep!
Get of the beaten tracks and join us for an Icelandic Highland experience!
The drive will start in Reykjavik or you can be picked up somewhere on our way in the south too, and from there we will traverse the southern part of the island until the iconic waterfall Seljalandsfoss just after which the mountain-road adventure will start!
The drive will take us through the beautiful valley taking us between three incredible ice caps, Mýrdalsjökull, Tindfjallajökull and Eyjafjallajökull.
Once in the heart of Þorsmörk, we will have some time to explore the area. (Depending of the conditions and weather).
The way in or out will be spiced up with some extra stops!
Comfortable clothing, hiking shoes and warm clothes according to this area’s weather forecast!

I WANT TO GO ON THIS TOUR

Dress for our trip to Iceland
There are so many things to do when visiting Iceland that you don’t want to miss out by not wearing appropriate clothing.
If you visit powerful waterfalls such as Skógafoss, Seljalandsfoss or Dettifoss, the mist from them can get you soaking wet in no time.
Thermal underwear, leggings (or tights) and T-shirts (or tight sweaters), are essential during the winter, as they provide different levels of insulation impossible to achieve otherwise.
When it comes to covering your torso, don’t forget the obvious pieces of clothing, like T-shirts, long-sleeved shirts, and vests.
There is nothing worse than having cold feet. Wool is the best material for insulating, so make sure you bring enough pairs to last you the entire trip.
Believe us, these accessories in Iceland much more than fashion accessories: they are real lifesavers, they make a difference between being comfortable or suffering.
You may not be thinking about packing a swimsuit for a winter trip or even for a trip to Iceland. However, on our tour it will be useful. Our tours have access to the Blue lagoon where you will need it. Don’t forget it at home.
The varied combination of Iceland’s terrain makes boots an essential garment, a thick sole is recommended (professional hiking boots is not essential) to adjust our crampons during the glacier hike.
